Dr. Bosch |
Assistant Professor of Environmental Biology, Nathan Bosch, Ph.D., has recently published the results of his ongoing research in the scientific journal, Lakes and Reservoir Management. Bosch joined the faculty of Grace College in 2009 and has spearheaded Grace’s program in Environmental Biology. The new major emphasizes hands-on education in the field as well as strong preparation for immediate careers or continued education in graduate school. Bosch, who completed his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, has focused his research on the transport of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) through rivers and lakes. These nutrients support the base of aquatic food chains by promoting the growth of aquatic plants. Too much of these nutrients, however, can cause excessive plant and algal growth causing ecological, recreation, and human health problems. His recent article, “Nutrient Fluxes across Reaches and Impoundments in Two Southeastern Michigan Watersheds,” examines exactly how these nutrients are transported through water systems – something that remains unclear within the scientific community. Bosch’s research is critical for understanding ecological concerns for the Michiana region as well as promises to bring benefits to the Winona Lake community.
