Grace College and Theological Seminary: A private college in Indiana

Vehicle/Parking Info

The specific traffic polices and regulations and applies to all faculty, staff and students operating vehicles on Grace College property. Vehicle registration was developed to organize and regulate campus parking and traffic, so that the college may be able to control and accommodate as many vehicles as possible.

  1. When operating a motor vehicle on Grace campus, it is imperative that proper driving safety is followed.

  2. All common laws, as well as all Indiana State laws and Local Ordinances will be enforced on Grace Property. Violations will result in citations being issued and or revocation of driving privileges.

  3. All motor vehicles are to be properly licensed and possess, at the minimum, liability insurance.

  4. All drivers that operate a vehicle on Grace property are responsible for and will be held to these rules.

  5. The term “vehicle” includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds, and any other motor propelled vehicles.

Registration
All student owned or operated vehicles must be registered through this office and display a current Grace tag while on campus. Any traffic accidents occurring on the Grace Campus should be immediately reported to the Campus Safety Office.

  1. It is required that all students register a vehicle driven by them at the beginning of the school year or within 24 hours after acquiring a vehicle during mid-year.

  2. Registration forms may be obtained at the Safety Office or the Student Development Office.

  3. Any student properly licensed and carrying insurance may own or use a motor vehicle on campus.

  4. Registration of vehicles is solely for the purpose of identification and does not guarantee you a parking space. Parking in each lot is on a first come first serve basis. Finding a legal parking space is the driver’s responsibility. There are 3 open lots located on the Grace College campus. These lots are the lower Alpha lot, Byer Music Hall and the Robert and Frances Gordon Student Recreation Center (SRC) lot. Open lots allow any color of tag to park in these lots. Please do not park in these lots for extended periods of time, but over night parking is permitted in open lots.

Motorbikes, Motorcycles, and Motor Scooters:
Operation of these vehicles is restricted to the campus streets designed for normal automobile use. These vehicles may park at the ends of parking rows where the area is marked off by yellow stripes.

Temporary Parking Permits
Temporary parking permits shall be obtained from the Campus Safety Office. This permit will be given to vehicles used on campus for only a short period of time. Permanent tags must be obtained if the vehicle will be in use for more than one week.

General Information on Parking
Grace College is designed to be a walking campus. Vehicles are to be parked in their assigned parking colored lot 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is an exception: Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. until curfew and anytime on Saturday and Sunday you may park in the brown colored lots but must be in your assigned lots by curfew each night. There is no over night parking in any of the off-campus lots or faculty parking areas, without permission from the Campus Safety Department.

Failure to Register
A $35 fine will be charged for failure to register a vehicle the first time. You will then be allowed three (3) school days to register your vehicle without receiving another citation. Failure to register at this time may result in your vehicle being towed. You will be responsible for paying the towing company for the towing fee and a $50 fine to Grace College. If the vehicle is not claimed within 24 hours, there will be a storage fee charged by the towing company.

Tag Protocol
Tags must be placed on the rear view mirror of the vehicle. Tags must face the front of the vehicle and be in an upright and visible position. If the tag is placed in any other location on the car, the vehicle is considered not registered. The tag must be on the vehicle to be considered registered.

If your tag is defective or has become damaged, replace it as soon as possible for a $10 fee.

If your tag is damaged by negligence, a replacement fee of $10 will apply.
If a student loses his or her tag or fails to return it prior to leaving school (tags may be returned to the Campus Safety Office or given to your RA upon checkout), a $10 fee will be assessed.

If a student fails to return the tag by the end of the school year (Graduation) a $5 late fee will be assessed. The tag must still be turned in or the $10 fee will be added for failure to return the tag.

Tampering with, transferring, trading, or altering the registration decal in any way will result in a $50 fine as well as other disciplinary action. This is considered fraudulent.

Tags must be turned in on Monday the week of Finals for the Spring semester for all students. Failure to do so will result in a $10.00 fine.

Tags turned in past there due dates will have a $5.00 late fee added to your account.

If you acquire a new vehicle, a new tag will be issued, the old tag needs to be turned in or the $10 fine will apply. If the vehicle is in use for more than a week you will be required to obtain a new tag.

Visitor Tags
Visitor parking tags will be available through the visitor center or through the Campus Safety Department. These are to be used on a temporary basis by visitors only! Visitors will be responsible for obeying all Grace College rules and regulations while on Grace College Campus property.

Any questions concerning vehicle registration may be directed to the Campus Safety Department at 269-5344. Maintenance vehicles and Campus Safety vehicles during the course of their work are exempt from restrictions, otherwise they apply.

Vehicles for Sale

Vehicle Storage
Indiana State Fire law prohibits any motor-driven vehicle to be housed, parked, or stored inside of any residence hall. Therefore, students who violate this law will be fined $50. If the wrongful storage of a vehicle caused any damages, the student involved may incur additional charges.

Vehicles Tow Away
Vehicles in violation of parking regulations or apparently abandoned may be towed away without notice and stored at the owner’s expense.

Loss of Vehicle Eligibility Disciplinary Probation
When a single student is placed on disciplinary probation, his vehicle privilege is forfeited and his vehicle must either be permanently parked as instructed by the Chief of Campus Safety or returned home.

Violations of Campus Regulations
Violations occurring on Grace property will be reported to Student Development.

The following regulations, which may be amended, govern the operation of motor vehicles on Grace Campus at all times of the calendar year.
