The fast-growing popularity of sports around the world means the Sport Business program has remarkable latitude. Sport is big business, which makes it one of Grace’s strongest programs, preparing students for an array of career possibilities. Students completing the program will develop their business skills, gaining knowledge in finance, marketing and management, which they will learn to effectively apply in the sports business field. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in applied learning experiences on and off campus, including opportunities to work at major sport organizations and events during their course work. In addition, they will be able to take advantage of opportunities such as practicums, volunteer opportunities and internships.

This course deals with the study of sport organizations: how they are organized, how they operate, and how they govern their sport or members.
This course provides a decision-oriented overview of marketing management in modern organizations. The objective of the course is to provide a broad introduction to marketing concepts, the role of marketing in society and in the firm, and the various factors that influence marketing decision making.
Surveys the four major managerial functions: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Within a biblical framework, the course examines developments from scientific management to ethics, diversity, social responsibility and globalization.
This course is a practical approach to event management. Event planning, sponsorship, budgeting, management and evaluation will be emphasized. Events require a great deal of expertise and planning. Society demands that events be run professionally and efficiently.
In this course, the student will study the entire scope of facility management, including facility planning, construction, budgeting, facility operations and facility supervision.

Darrell Johnson is the director of the Sport Management Program. He is an active member in many professional organizations, including AAHPERD, NASPE, AAPAR, IAHPERD and NASSM. He has presented at numerous state and national conventions and meetings on different sport management and physical education topics. Johnson is active in major sports events by volunteering, and he encourages his students to also be involved. Some of his recent experiences include the 2013 President’s Cup, the 2012 Super Bowl, the 2011 Big 10 Football Championship, the 2012 PGA Senior Championship and the USGA Senior Open. He regularly leads a group of students on a one-week trip to Atlanta, Georgia to study African-American culture and the rich history of African-American athletes. As a student, he was a pitcher on the Lancer's baseball team and currently holds the record for the most wins in a career and the most wins in a season. In 2009, he was inducted into the Grace College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jeffery Fawcett serves as dean of the School of Business and professor of marketing. He came to Grace College in 2011, bringing 24 years of experience in Christian higher education. Prior to beginning his teaching career, he worked as a consultant in Washington, D.C. on contracts with the Naval Sea Systems Command and the Federal Aviation Administration. Fawcett is active in the Christian Business Faculty Association.

Prior to coming to Grace in 2012, Alan Grossnickle spent five years at the University of Saint Francis, where he developed the Entrepreneurship program and taught business courses. He has extensive experience as the former CEO/president and founder of Caremet, Inc. dba Miller's Merry Manor healthcare facilities, which was the largest independent healthcare organization in Indiana. He lives in Warsaw with his wife and has two sons and three grandchildren. He is presently completing a doctorate in Business Administration at Northcentral University.

Chad Briscoe serves as the Director of Athletics at Grace College and an adjunct professor in Sports Management. He came to Grace College in 2007 and has worked in higher education for 14 years. Prior to beginning his time at Grace, he worked as a college basketball coach and assistant athletic director. He spent 6 years working in professional baseball with 3 of those years in the Texas Rangers organization. He serves both in the NAIA & NCCAA on different committees while overseeing the Champions of Character program for the NAIA Crossroads League.
Some of the positions you can obtain:
Responsible for the team's finances as well as overseeing the other departments within the organization such as marketing, public relations, accounting, ticket sales, advertising, sponsorship and community relations. A sports executive also works to establish long-term contracts and develops support within the communities where the team plays.
The fitness manager is responsible for the overall function of the personal training department and its profitability. Recruit, hire, develop, train and supervise qualified personal training staff. Assisting with club profitability via revenue generation and expense management.
Manage a store in the retail environment. Responsible for the output of merchandising, marketing, logistics, store operations and IT. Partner with organizations outside your own to generate business and make a profit.
Act as a representative for professional athletes in many different types of negotiations, providing advice and representation concerning contracts, endorsement and advertisements deals, public appearances and financial investments.
Responsible for the day-to-day operations involved in running a sports facility such as a stadium or arena. They are involved in the planning, buying, selling or leasing of facilities as well as the redesign or construction and supervision of personnel.
Demonstrate the value associated with season ticket packages to prospects throughout the area. Sell and service new accounts, creating new ideas to increase ticket sales. Actively pursue new business and decipher ways to acquire leads.

I feel the business faculty in the School of Business at Grace College are among the best! The professors made my time here very enjoyable, and all the professors seemed like they cared about me as a student.
