A Bible translation major at Grace is where the study of Greek, Hebrew, and linguistics intersect. By the time you graduate, you’ll be equipped to assist in every part of the biblical translation process, whether that’s documenting the linguistic features of a language or working in biblical interpretation.

As a Bible translation major, you’ll receive a strong theological foundation through courses in Old and New Testament study, biblical exposition, and biblical exegesis. From there, you’ll take several semesters of classes in both the Greek and Hebrew languages. You’ll also engage in intercultural study, which will prepare you for global-minded work in the United States or another country.

As for linguistics, you’ll benefit from our partnership with Dallas International University’s Summer Institute of Linguistics, which works closely with Wycliffe Bible Translators to provide undergraduate linguistic education. Prepare to spend a summer diving into the fundamentals of linguistics, such as phonetics, syntax, and morphology.

Your Bible translation courses will culminate in a senior seminar, in which you will research, prepare, and present scholarship about a major-related topic of your choice.

At Grace, we know that it’s one thing to translate in a classroom. It’s quite another to work in translation as a career. That’s why every Grace student is required to complete an internship experience. If you don’t choose to intern at a local church or missions organization, you’ll have the opportunity to work for Wycliffe Bible Translators or Pioneer Bible Translators.

When you graduate, you’ll be fully equipped to work in Bible translation, whether that’s right here in Indiana or in the farthest reaches of the world.
