Actors From The London Stage Return to Grace College

The Grace College Department of Humanities is pleased to announce the return of Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) to the Grace College campus in February. AFTLS’s visit will include a week-long residency and three open-to-the-public performances of William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” on Feb. 17, 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. Performances will take place in Grace College’s Little Theatre, located in Philathea Hall, 1499 Alpha Dr., Winona Lake. “We’re thrilled to have AFTLS perform one of Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedies perfectly timed with Valentine’s season,” said Dr. Lauren Rich, chair of the Department of Humanities at Grace College. “This is a can’t-miss opportunity for Grace students and members of the Winona Lake/Warsaw community.”

AFTLS is one of the oldest established touring Shakespeare companies in the world. Their Spring 2022 Tour includes the University of Notre Dame, Bloomsburg University, the University of North Alabama, Middlebury College and the US Air Force Academy. In addition to dynamic performances, AFTLS will conduct a week-long residency program at Grace. Throughout the week, the actors will lead several dozen interdisciplinary class visits, workshops, and demonstrations at Grace College and in local high schools.  “This is what makes AFTLS so special: they are not only talented theatre professionals but also passionate educators who use their unique skill set to come alongside professors and educators to enrich the classroom experience,” said Rich.

The event is sponsored by the Grace College Department of Humanities with support from the Elener R. (Norris) Grossman Fund. The Elener R. (Norris) Grossman Fund honors Grace alumna Elener “Ellie” Grossman (BA ’58, S ‘63). Ellie was a lifelong learner and consummate educator who taught English and journalism at the college and high school level for nearly a quarter of a century, including several years as an assistant professor at Grace College. Begun by her husband Gilbert and continued by her son Luke and daughter-in-law Dawn, this fund invests in the students and faculty of Grace College by sponsoring unique cultural and educational experiences.
