Chemistry
Chemistry Major
As a chemistry major at Grace College, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and laboratory skills for work in modern chemistry, such as organic chemistry, pharmaceutics, and food science.
The chemistry degree at Grace places God at the center of our academic pursuit. Through the complexity of the universe’s materials, we see evidence of a Creator. You’ll learn to be a steward of His Creation through green chemistry design and practice.
Your core chemistry classes and labs will teach you the basics of general, organic, and physical chemistry. Know that faculty will be present at your labs. They will be ready to aid and answer all your questions, whether you’re completing titrations or performing Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.
In the classroom, we teach the mind; in the laboratory, we train the hand. Chemistry is best learned by doing, so your lectures are filled with opportunities to practice what faculty preach. You’ll apply both classical chemistry techniques and advanced instrumentations in our state-of-the-art laboratories, which simulate industrial and academic labs.
At Grace, we’re all about career experience outside of the classroom. That’s why we require every student to complete an internship experience. If eligible, you also may complete a special research project under the supervision of faculty. In addition to internships and research projects, you can also enjoy membership in the American Chemical Society.
Once you graduate with your chemistry degree, you’ll be prepared to perform inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry in any research setting. You may become a lab technician in a manufacturing or academic laboratory, or you might pursue further schooling and a postgraduate chemistry career.
