As a photography major at Grace, you’ll be prepared to work in professional photography, applying the fundamentals of art and design to create work that not only fits your clients’ needs but exceeds their expectations.
You’ll engage with faculty who will encourage you to explore your relationship with truth as a photographer representing God’s Creation — from products, to landscapes, to other people.
Your foundational classes will verse you in the fundamentals, including camera basics, the exposure triad, composition, visual interest, and the other elements of art and design that distinguish professional photography as a craft. By your senior year, you’ll specialize with classes that fit your interests and projected career path, including fine arts, visual communication design, and art history.
We believe that artistic improvement is forged from practice and feedback, which is
why our photography courses are iterative and project-based. You’ll practice following a creative brief, revising your work, and both giving and receiving constructive feedback, under the guidance of practitioners.
As part of your photography major, you’ll complete an internship experience. Our students have interned with local photographers, studios, local businesses, and even several orthopedic institutions right here in the Orthopedic Capital of the World.
After you graduate with a photography degree, you’ll enter the field of photography with real-world experience (and a portfolio to show it!), and you’ll be prepared to enter any photography specialization: portrait, studio, event, and journalistic, among others!
