Should I bring a computer to Grace?

Bringing your own computer is recommended, but not a necessity. Grace provides public computers and printers in all freshman residence halls. There are also two larger public labs with printers, one with expanded software options for IT majors and enthusiasts. If you choose to bring your own computer, you can print to any of the public printers. OIT offers the equivalent of 200 free pages of black and white printing per semester. Also, if you choose to bring a desktop without wireless capabilities, be sure to bring an ethernet cable. Feel free to contact OIT for alternatives to wired networking.

Minimum System Requirements

  • Windows 7 sp1, OSX 10.8 or higher
  • Up-to-date antivirus software (OIT recommends Microsoft's free Security Essentials)
  • 10/100 Ethernet card and/or 802.11g/n/ac wireless (must support WPA2 TKIP/PSK)

Free Microsoft Office365 Software

As a Grace student, you have access to the online versions of Office plus 1 TB of online storage for free. Information and instructions on how to order software.

Internet Access

Grace offers network and internet access to all registered students and guests. Once you're on campus, plug in or connect to the wireless network called “Grace-WiFi.” (The wireless network password is the Grace main telephone number, 5743725100). Once connected, open your browser, and you'll be directed to our registration page.

You can pre-register your device before you even come to campus by going to This includes game consoles or mobile devices. Contact the OIT Helpdesk for more information.

Communication Services

Grace provides each student a "" email address through Google Apps for Education (a Gmail service). All professors and staff will use the account to share documents and communicate important information. However, access to most other webmail accounts and social media is also accessible.

Diagnostic Services

OIT will provide support to students for connecting their personal devices (computers, phones, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, etc.) to our wired and/or wireless networks at no charge. In addition, OIT will provide basic virus/malware cleanup, as it relates to the ability to connect to the Internet from campus.

Diagnostic services will also be provided at no cost. A virus/malware infection of a more serious nature that would lead to an operating system rebuild and/or computer component replacement may be billable to the individual. Contact the OIT Helpdesk for more information.

OIT recommends that you bring all original software, source disks and warranty information with you to campus as many times as it is necessary for a successful problem resolution.
